Karuta : Ogura Hyakunin-Isshu traditional Japanese card matching game
Karuta which is name of 100 sets of cards used a card matching game in Japan.
All the poems in Hyakuninisshu are made in Tanka style, consisting of *31 syllables. The first half of a Tanka poem (17 syllables) is called Kamino-ku and the second half (14 syllables) is called Shimono-ku. *Some poems consist of 30 syllables or 32 syllables.
Two different types of Karuta cards are used for the game. One is the Yomifuda (reading cards) and the other is the Torifuda (playing cards).
Recently it has become famous even in manga (chihayafuru).
